Six of the seven matches were won by the teams that went "first first". The only team to buck this trend was the Nags Head 'B'.
According to the spreadsheet, the teams that went "first first" scored 106% of their averages, while those that went second managed only 88%.
Having said that, there were no obvious shock results. Only two teams beat another that finished above them in the Leagues last season, and in neither case was there a big gap. They both came in 'derby' matches: Sutton Mutton (3rd in the C League) beat the Sutton Club (1st) by 20 points, and Harrington Academicals (1st in the B League) beat the Diamonds (7th in the A League) by just six. There were however some big margins of victory, in games that might have been expected to be somewhat closer.
In the A League there are three unbeaten teams, although each of them has played only two matches. The Poachers, Harrington Academicals and Nags Head 'B' are separated by just 17 match points. In the B League, where most teams have now played three matches, only two are unbeaten: the Dolphin Hammers and the Park Taverners.
Highest scorer this week was Julian Amey with 48. Alan Hodgson and Rob Parkin were the top scorers in the A League, each with 45.
Alan retains top spot in the A League Individual table with 147 points from three games, now closely followed by his team-mate Peter McBride with 132. Paul Prior tops the B League table with 120, with Graham Wallace and Wynne Keith–Davies in joint second place on 108.

The latest Cars & Vans table makes painful reading for this week's setters. It was a low–scoring night, although not excessively so – with teams scoring on average 97% of their average scores. But there was a distinct bias to both sets of questions, in favour of the teams that went 'first first'. Overall, those teams scored 106% of their averages, while those that went second managed only 88%.
The Balance marks were consequently very low – the Specialists being saved by the fact that the bias was not quite as extreme as in Week 1. The Difficulty marks were slightly better, with the Specialist questions scoring only slightly less than average.
Despite all this however, the questions seem to have gone down reasonably well. The Entertainment marks were quite respectable, and both sets would have been in the top half of the table last season on this measure.
It's probably worth noting that several people have commented on the number of points that were won on conferred questions; and in at least two A League matches, very few questions went unanswered. This would seem to suggest that there were very few really hard questions, and while the overall standard may have been quite hard, there were a lot of questions that at least one person in each team could answer. This is a team game after all, and if someone in each team can answer a question then (IMHO) it can't really be said to be too hard.
The setters will take some comfort in that thought!
