Remember to Look Up at the Stars

Time magazine reports that:

"Hawking gave this now–famous piece of advice to his three children Lucy, Robert and Tim and related it in an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer in 2010. Included in those words of advice were: 'Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it.' And: 'if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don’t throw it away.'"

A longer version of the quote in question is listed by the Grauniad (among several other websites):

"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the Universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up."
