Phil Neal

... was the only player to feature in all four of Liverpool's European Cup triumphs (1977, 1978, 1981 and 1984).

The player with the most European Cup / Champions League winners' medals of all is Francisco 'Paco' Gento, who played for Real Madrid from 1953 to 1971 and played in all six of their European Cup wins. (They've since won the Champions League seven times).

Seven Real Madrid players, including the legendary Alfredo di Stefano, featured in five of their six European Cup wins; these seven all missed out on the sixth, in 1966.

Three players have won five Champions League medals: Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta (both AC Milan) and Cristiano Ronaldo (one with Manchester United, four with Real Madrid).

Phil Neal is one of four players with four European Cup winners' medals; the other three all played for Real Madrid. In addition, 16 players have four Champions' League medals. No fewer than ten of them – including Gareth Bale – featured in all four of Real Madrid's titles between 2014 and 2018. Cristiano Ronaldo also played in all four of these (as well as 2008 with Manchester United).

Sixty–two players have won three European Cup or Champions' League medals. Eight of them are Liverpool players: Alan Hansen, Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish, Ray Clemence, Terry McDermott, Ray Kennedy, Jimmy Case and Steve Heighway.

Phil Neal was also Bob Paisley's first signing for Liverpool – moving from Northampton Town, for a fee of £66,000, in October 1974. Although he wore the No. 2 shirt (right full–back), he became Liverpool's first–choice penalty taker. His most famous penalty was Liverpool's third goal in their 3–1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 1977 European Cup Final.

He played 455 League games for the Reds, scoring 41 goals, before moving to Bolton Wanderers as player–manager in 1985. He also won 50 caps for England.
