World Lacrosse Championships

This could be the very definition of an either/or question. The World Lacrosse Championships were first held in 1967; the second tournament was in 1974, and they've been held every four years since then.

That's 13 tournaments, of which the USA have won ten and Canada three.

Canada's winning years were 1978, 2006 and 2014.

In the first four tournaments, only Canada, the USA, Australia and England took part. The Iroquois Nationals (a Canadian 'First Nation' team) made it five in 1990, and in 1994 Japan made it six. Eleven teams took part in 1998, and since then the numbers have increased steadily until in 2018 there were 46 teams.

Australia were runners–up in 1967, 1982 and 1994, and England in 1974. The other nine finals – including the last six – have been between the USA and Canada.

The championships were last held in 2018, and the USA are the current champions. The next is in 2022.

Three of the World Championship tournaments have been held in England, and each time in Greater Manchester: Stockport in 1978, Bury in 1994, and Manchester in 2010.
