Allan Sherratt RIP |
Allan Sherratt died on Friday 16 February 2024. He'd been unwell for some time, and was taken to hospital on Thursday the 15th. His blood pressure was found to be very high, and he subsequently suffered a heart attack. He was resuscitated, but he then suffered another attack and died on Friday.
Allan played regularly in the Quiz League from 2005 to 2014, in the Church House Bollington team. He was often seen in cahoots with Rick Davis, also from the CHB, who of course also died some years ago now. They were a formidable double act, and for many years did a wonderful job of asking Cup and Plate Final questions. The photograph above shows them performing that very role a few years ago – Rick on the left and Allan on the right.
Allan also sponsored the MQL Question Setters' Trophy in the name of his company, Cars & Vans 4U Ltd.
Allan was most certainly a character in the nicest possible way, and something of a stand–up comedian too – performing regularly at charity or Cricket Club functions. He played cricket in his younger days for Bollington and Pott Shrigley, along with Keith Arnold, who also turned out for the Church House occasionally. Dave Partington (of the Harrington Academicals quiz team) was at school with Allan, albeit one year behind, and remembers that he was an outstanding cricketer.
Even after stopping playing in the Quiz League, Allan always messaged Ed Baron on a Wednesday morning to see how the Church House (known since 2021 as the Poachers) had got on.
Allan is survived by his wife Eileen, their son Tom and daughter–in–law Cathy, and grandson Finley. Another grandchild is expected in April. We send our deepest condolences to all Allan's family.
