Cook, Hitler and Basterd

This also was my question, and like the previous one (Question 20) it was an either/or for me. Was it Adrian ('Ade') Edmondson, or Rik Mayall?

I'd never heard of a character called Daniel Cook. I did know that Eddie Hitler was one of the lead characters in Bottom, and I knew that Vyvyan was out of The Young Ones.

On reflection, I was fairly sure that Rik Mayall's character in The Young Ones was called Rick, and Vyvyan (with the studs in his forehead) certainly had a look of Ade Edmondson about him. I also seemed to remember that it was Ade Edmondson's character in Bottom that was called Eddie. I decided to go for what proved to be the right answer; but it had me worried for a while.

Someone then pointed out that the character played by Rik Mayall in The New Statesman was called Alan B'Stard. Maybe it's a good job I hadn't thought of this – it would only have added to my confusion.

Turns out that Daniel Cook is a character that Ade Edmondson played in EastEnders, from June 2019 to February 2020. He was "a love interest" of Jean Slater. From his first appearance he was a cancer patient, and he died in the episode broadcast on 27 February 2020 – twelve days before this quiz.

Rik Mayall's character in Bottom was called Richard 'Richie' Richard.

Note to self: Rik Mayall – at least when appearing with Ade Edmondson – usually played characters called Rik, or Richard.
