Rahul Dravid

When he retired, Dravid was actually the second highest Test run scorer, after his fellow countryman Sachin Tendulkar. He was quickly overtaken by Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis, who retired in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Kallis surpassed Dravid's total of 13,288 runs by just one!

Dravid was also, and still is, the leading fielder in Test cricket, with 210 catches.

The Times of India reported that Dravid was "the first of the three ageing greats of Indian cricket, besides Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, to retire". Laxman retired later in 2012, and is currently India's fourth highest scorer in Test matches, after Tendulkar, Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar. Tendulkar played his last Test match in 2013, at the age of 40.
